Meet Dr. Thanapoom Boonipat
Education
Dr. Thanapoom Boonipat is a distinguished plastic surgeon with a rich educational background and extensive international experience. His journey in medicine began at Johns Hopkins University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. During his undergraduate years, he consistently made the Dean’s List and received the prestigious Richard J. Johns Award for outstanding performance in his field.
Dr. Boonipat pursued his medical degree at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, where he graduated in June 2017. His academic excellence was evident as he achieved high scores on the USMLE exams and placed second in the Thailand National Medical Licensing Exam. He also received honors in various medical sub-internships, including internal medicine, neurology, and plastic surgery.
Following medical school, Dr. Boonipat completed an integrated residency program in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, from June 2017 to June 2023. His residency training equipped him with comprehensive skills in plastic surgery and fostered his interest in craniofacial and maxillofacial surgery. He is a fellow at Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan, where he continues refining his expertise in this specialized field.
Throughout his career, Dr. Boonipat has been actively involved in research, contributing significantly to the field of plastic surgery. He has collaborated with renowned institutions such as Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Thayer School of Engineering, focusing on innovative projects like designing and 3D fabricating cartilage molds for ear reconstruction. His research has led to numerous publications and presentations at prestigious conferences worldwide.
Dr. Boonipat’s work has been recognized on various platforms, with his research on artificial intelligence in plastic surgery being particularly noteworthy. His studies on the impact of facial reanimation surgery, brow lift outcomes, and the influence of face masks on emotional expression have been presented at international conferences and published in leading journals.
His commitment to advancing plastic surgery is further exemplified by his international experiences. Dr. Boonipat has completed rotations and fellowships in diverse settings, including Rwanda, Qatar, Vietnam, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan. These experiences have enriched his surgical skills and provided him with a global perspective on patient care and medical research.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Boonipat is deeply passionate about classical Chinese painting. His artistic talents have been nationally recognized in Thailand and at academic institutions like Johns Hopkins and Dartmouth. He has won several awards and organized painting exhibitions, raising substantial funds for various charities.

Dr. Boonipat has published 20 articles. The subjects of these articles and presentations include everything from practical surgical applications to Artificial Intelligence in Facial Analysis and Facial Reanimation and Reconstruction. Dr. Boonipat has spoken at numerous regional, national, and international meetings. Dr. Boonipat has also submitted various manuscripts for publication. He has 2 manuscripts that reflect a broader trend in medical research towards using advanced technology and data-driven methods to achieve standardization and objective assessment in various medical fields being published.
