How to Make and Use Your Sizers

After we size in the office, some patients are still deciding between two volumes. This method lets you repeat that process at home over a longer period so you can settle on the size that makes you happy. Because we keep all implant sizes in stock, you can fine-tune right up until the morning of surgery.

What You’ll Need

• Instant freeze-dried mashed potato powder
• A measuring cup marked in ml/cc (the back side of most measuring cups; ml and cc are the same unit)
• Knee-high pantyhose
• Your favorite bras, bathing suits, and dresses

How to Make Your Sizers

1. Measure your volume in cc. Implant size is measured in cubic centimeters (cc). Measure out the powder to the volume you want to try. For example, for a 350cc sizer, measure 250cc and then add another 100cc. Keep the powder dry.
2. Fill the pantyhose. Take a knee-high and fill it with the measured powder. Draping the pantyhose over a bowl first makes filling easier.
3. Tie it off. Close the pantyhose so nothing spills.
4. Mold it into a breast shape. Work the sizer into a natural, rounded shape.
5. Wear it. Place the sizer in your bra, bathing suit, or dress and settle it into a natural position.

To compare volumes, you can make a full set of sizers, or simply keep adding powder to move up — for instance, adding volume to a 350cc sizer to try 450cc.

How to Wear and Evaluate Them

Don’t judge a size in a single glance. Wear your sizers around the house and in your favorite bras, bathing suits, and dresses over the weeks between your consultation and your surgery. Living with a volume at a slower pace gives you a much better sense of what you find attractive than a quick look in the office. Try more than one volume so you have something to compare.

Fine-Tuning Before Surgery

We do sizing in the clinic for breast augmentation, but sometimes people haven’t really decided after we do the sizing here in the office — they’ll be in between sizes. I’ll give you suggestions for what size you should try at home. So even if you pick an operative date, you have the opportunity to really fine-tune the size between the time of the consultation and the time of the operation, because we have all the implants in stock. On the morning of the surgery is when you tell me what size you wanted, based on what I’m going to show you now, and show me photographs so I know the look and the size — so we can really get the perfect outcome for you.

So if we try sizers on here and you’re trying to decide between 350 and 450, something like that, you’re going to use this method: take the sizer that you’re going to make, put it in your favorite bras, bathing suits, and dresses, wear it around the house, and then after a prolonged period between the consultation and the operation, really get a sense of what you find to be aesthetically attractive.

What you need is instant freeze-dried mashed potato powder and a measuring cup. Your measuring cup normally measures in ml and oz, but we use ml or cc — on the back side there’s ml and cc, and they’re the same units. We use knee-high pantyhose, and one way to make it easier is to drape it around a bowl or something. You’re going to take your knee-high pantyhose and fill it with the instant freeze-dried mashed potato powder. So if we’ve discussed 350 and you want to start off with 350, then measure out the powder. I can see from the top here that’s 250 cc’s, so put the 250 in there, and you need another 100 — and leave it dry. It’s kind of messy, but I can see from the top that now that’s an extra 100. So now we have 350 cc’s of instant freeze-dried mashed potato powder.

Then you take the pantyhose and try not to flip the entire thing on yourself. Now you have 350 cc’s, and you can mold this so it looks like a breast. You just tie it off and then put it into your bras, bathing suits, things like that. You can mold it so it has the shape of a breast. If you’re going to try 450, you can make a whole set of sizers, or you can just keep adding volume to this. It’s a very easy way to repeat the sizing process that we’ve done in the office, but in an environment which is more comfortable and at a slower pace — so you can really give me a good idea of what’s going to make you happy.
