Am I A Good Candidate For A Liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure that can remove stubborn fat from certain areas of your body. It’s important to know that this is not a shortcut to weight loss and is best suited for healthy individuals who have already achieved a stable weight.
Initial Consultation
At the initial consultation, your health history will be reviewed and the liposuction procedure will be explained in great detail, and any alternative procedures, as well as the risks and benefits of surgery, will be discussed.
Here you will also check before and after photographs of Dr. Lawton’s patients, and all of your questions will be answered.
During the consultation, your body contours including, skin excess, fat deposits, and muscular tone, will be evaluated. Here is where you will have the opportunity to point out the particular characteristics of your anatomy that you would like to improve or change.

What Happens During The Liposuction Procedure?
Liposuction is performed in our private AAAASF Certified Class-C Outpatient Surgical Center. The procedure takes about 1 hour per area to be treated.
Dr. Lawton uses the tumescent technique, which involves using a special fluid during the procedure. This fluid contains epinephrine, which helps to decrease the risk of bleeding and bruising, and lidocaine, which reduces the amount of anesthesia needed during surgery, and also helps to relieve pain after the surgery.
We use a type of anesthesia that is administered through an IV for this outpatient procedure. It is administered by an elite group of carefully selected, highly qualified, board-certified anesthesiologists and is designed to provide a smooth and gentle anesthetic experience, as well as prevent postoperative pain. This type of anesthesia allows Dr. Lawton to work on the areas being treated without causing pain.
Different sizes (3.7 mm, 4 mm, 4.6 mm, and 5 mm in diameter) of liposuction cannulae, which are medical instruments used during liposuction, are used depending on the amount of fat, the condition of the skin, the area being treated, the character of the fat, and the amount of fibrous tissue. The incisions are small and hidden in areas that are not easily noticeable.
What Is The Recovery Like After Liposuction?
After your surgery, it is important to get plenty of rest. At home, you will have medications to help with any pain you may feel. We also prescribe antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection. To reduce swelling and bruising, and speed up your recovery, we will provide you with a special compression garment, surgical vitamins, arnica, and bromelain.
We will see you the day after your surgery at our office. By the fourth or fifth day, the discomfort should be significantly reduced. You will need to come back in one week to have your sutures removed. By then, you should be feeling well enough to resume most of your normal activities, including work. However, it will take about six weeks for your wounds to heal to 50% of their full strength. Only after this time period, you can return to vigorous activities.
We will schedule follow-up appointments with you at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and then every year after that. If needed, will see you more frequently, but these follow-up visits will always be free of charge.
What Results Should I Expect After Liposuction Procedure?
The success of liposuction is measured by changes in contour. You may also lose some weight and get into smaller size clothing, although this varies based on your anatomy. Fat removal is permanent, but it’s important to maintain healthy habits like eating well and exercising regularly to keep your new shape. Even if you gain weight after liposuction, the localized fat deposits that existed prior to surgery should not grow out of proportion to the surrounding areas.

I received a referral for Dr. Lawton after expressing my nervousness about the whole concept of cosmetic surgery and my desire to have a confidential and personalized experience for my investment. When I walked into the office, I was immediately welcomed by the staff and given instructions on the paperwork to complete. My appointment was kept on schedule and again one of the things that I felt was important in this consultative experience. In the consultation, I went through every single one of my concerns, fears, and asked a lot of questions regarding the procedure I had. Dr. Lawton was very kind, listened attentively, and then gave me a portfolio of pictures to review so that I could really allow him to visualize what I had in my mind. He was very professional and was able to show me the differences in some before and after pictures to allow me to see then that it was my option to continue with the services that he could provide. He explained the procedures thoroughly as well as the process leading up to the surgery. He addressed his services in a manner that was helpful for me to understand and then explained his recommendation. He did a visual evaluation and requested that I take the time to think about what option I preferred, I scheduled my surgery for a couple of weeks later for the mastopexy and reduction. The surgery began early as it takes 2- 21/2 hours to complete. I was welcomed by the staff and made comfortable in a pre-op room where they again asked me if I wanted to address any concerns, fears, or questions before the procedure. I had one of the ladies with me the entire time in pre-op that was very helpful and comforting. I was assured during the process that my feelings were validated and completely normal. 🙂 After surgery, my husband was notified immediatly and as I woke up from the anesthesia, I felt very drowsy. I was bound with a compression bandage and my husband was given all of my after care instructions. I was wheeled in a wheelchair to my car by another doctor and taken home by my husband. The next morning I had to return to make sure that I was feeling ok and didn't have any other concerns. This is when the compression bandadges were taken off and I was given instructions on the healing process again. I had 2 drains in and given pain killers that helped me to get through the first week post op. My pain at that point was normal considering I had major surgery. About 7 days later I returned to get the drains and stitches out and was amazed at that point how minimal the pain was and how awesome I felt with the results. The photo that I took to Dr. Lawton as "inspriation" was taken into account and I was given exactly what I had hoped for. I followed his instructions of taking my antibiotics, vitamin regimen and not lifing anything over 5 lbs. The lines that will be scars later were very thin at that point, and you couldn't even tell the nipples had been moved up. After just about 9 days or so, I didn't realize I would see the results that quickly. Now, I am about 1 month post op, drains out, pain gone, scabbing gone, and feeling super sexy again! I am able to wear soft bras now and am so excited about the results.
