FAQ's
Initial Consultation
At the initial consultation, your health history will be reviewed and the procedures you are interested in will be explained in great detail. Any alternative procedures, as well as the risks and benefits of surgery, will be discussed.
Here you will also review before and after photographs of Dr. Lawton’s patients, and all of your questions will be answered.
During the examination, your breast width, height, and nipple position will be measured. Any differences in the breasts from left to right will be evaluated. You will have the opportunity to point out the particular characteristics of your anatomy that you would like to improve or change.
After extensive discussion, you and Dr. Lawton will agree on which surgical plan will best achieve your goals. Our goal and commitment is that you leave this initial visit with a clear understanding of your surgical options, so that you can make an informed decision.
We are happy to answer any questions you may think of later by Remington Oaks Medical Building Phone Number 210-496-2639, email, or at another private consultation. There is never an additional charge for these subsequent visits.

What Happens During The Breast Augmentation Procedure?
Breast augmentation is performed in our private AAAASF Certified Class-C Outpatient Surgical Center. The minimally invasive procedure takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour.
For this outpatient surgery, we utilize general intravenous anesthesia that is administered by an elite group of carefully selected, highly qualified, board-certified anesthesiologists and is designed to provide a smooth and gentle anesthetic experience, as well as prevent postoperative nausea and pain.
Breast Size
Breast size is a personal choice. Implants come in a variety of sizes that can be tailored to meet your needs. The implants will be matched to your concept of the ideal breast. You will try on sizers at the time of the initial consultation to help you decide on implant size at our office here in San Antonio.
We will measure the height and width of your breasts to determine which implants will fit best on your chest wall. In addition, we will discuss the characteristics of breast shape and contour that you find pleasing, while looking at before and after photographs of patients who have undergone breast implant surgery. Using all of these tools, together we will arrive at the implant size that will best fit your needs.
Breast Implants
The breast implants are filled at the time of surgery with sterile saline, which is the same type of fluid used for your intravenous hydration. The amount of saline injected can be adjusted to create the desired breast shape and correct any size differences between the breasts. The preferred implants are smooth and round, which allows them to move naturally within the implant pocket, keeping them soft. Newer high-profile implants ripple much less than older moderate-profile styles.
Implant Position
In the vast majority of cases, the implants are placed behind the pectoralis major (chest) muscle to allow the implants to look and feel more natural. This submuscular position also results in less interference with mammography and breastfeeding. Submuscular implants have smoother, less visible edges and are associated with a lower incidence of capsular contracture (tight scar).
Minimally Invasive (Endoscopic) Surgery
The most sophisticated approach to breast augmentation is through a small incision in the armpit using an endoscope, or surgical camera. This transaxillary endoscopic approach is minimally invasive and provides significant advantages compared with other surgical options. The high-definition images from the endoscopic camera are displayed on a monitor, providing complete visualization of the surgical space, so the space for the implant can be carefully crafted to the desired dimensions.
This results in the best cosmetic breast shape and position after surgery. Complete visualization of the space during surgery also allows for careful and meticulous control of bleeding, resulting in virtually no bruising and minimal swelling during recovery. Endoscopic breast augmentation results in smaller scars, better breast shape and position, less bleeding, bruising, and swelling, and a faster, less painful recovery.
What Is The Recovery Like After Breast Augmentation?
After your surgery, it is important to get plenty of rest. At home, you will have medications to help ease muscle spasm and narcotic analgesics for pain. We also prescribe antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection. To reduce swelling and bruising and speed up your recovery, we will provide you with surgical vitamins, arnica, and bromelain.
We will see you the day after your surgery at our office. By the fourth or fifth day, the discomfort should be significantly reduced. You will return in one week to have your sutures removed and for instructions on how to massage the implants. By then, you should be feeling well enough to resume most of your normal activities, including work. However, it takes about 6 weeks for your wounds to reach 50% of their full strength, and only after this period can you return to vigorous activities.
We will schedule follow-up appointments at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and then every year after that. If needed, Dr. Lawton will see you more frequently, but these follow-up visits will always be free of charge.
Cost And Financing Options For Your Breast Augmentation Procedure
The cost of a breast augmentation procedure depends on several factors and may vary from patient to patient.
The average cost of breast augmentation in San Antonio is approximately $6,250 and can range up to $7,250, depending on whether the patient chooses cohesive gel silicone implants. This all-inclusive cost covers the operating room, board-certified anesthesiologist, implants, and surgeon’s fees. There are no charges for post-op appointments; all follow-up visits are free, for the life of the patient.
We also provide financing options. To learn more, you can schedule a consultation or call us at Remington Oaks Medical Building Phone Number 210-496-2639 with any questions about the costs involved with breast augmentation surgery.
